| Matching Gift Program
Many corporations offer Charitable Foundation Matching Gift programs to encourage associates to contribute to qualifying nonprofit organizations of their choice. These programs typically offer a way to double individual contributions to their favorite organizations and thus improve their communities. Many corporations view this as an opportunity to get involved in the local community in a way that is meaningful to its employees, thus improving employee retention and general goodwill.
How does it work?
Typically, dollar-for-dollar, the corporate foundation matches up to $10,000 per person each calendar year. There are certain guidelines:
- Qualifying nonprofit organizations must have a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Code
- Gifts must be personal contributions paid either in cash or securities
- The amount of each gift must equal at least $25 to be eligible
- The contribution must be actually paid, not simply pledged
