Making Bequests to GirlSource

What is a bequest and how do I include GirlSource in my will?
A bequest is a gift of personal property, such as money, stock, bonds, real property, or jewelry, which is directed by the provisions of the decedent's will.

What are the benefits of making a bequest?
Distributing your estate by means of a professionally drafted will or living trust ensures that your wishes will be carried out. They can also serve as a creative vehicle for making a thoughtful gift to GirlSource. For many people, a bequest offers the opportunity to make a larger gift than would be possible during one's lifetime. A bequest gift also reduces your assets subject to estate tax.

What are the types of bequests that I can make?
There are different types of bequests.

A charitable bequest is a gift intended to serve a religious, educational, political, or general social purpose to benefit mankind, aimed at the community or a particular segment of it. Charitable bequests also reduce the estate taxes that might be owed on the estate left by a decedent.

A demonstrative bequest is a gift of money that must be paid from a particular source, such as adesignated bank account or the sale of stock in a designated corporation.

A general bequest is a gift of money or other property that can be paid or taken from the decedent's general assets and not from a specific fund designated by the terms of the will.

If you decide to make a bequest, share your plan with your attorney and financial advisors, who will draft appropriate language for your will and help structure the gift effectively.
